October proclaimed Circular Economy Month in Canada

The Circular Innovation Council is extending Waste Reduction Week in Canada into Circular Economy Month to educate Canadians about the opportunities and benefits of the circular economy.

Waste Reduction Week has been running for 20 years in the third week of October, but the CIC believes it takes more than a week each year to get Canadians enthused about the opportunities and benefits of the circular economy.

Waste Reduction Week will continue, focusing on daily themes related to specific waste streams and the waste reduction component of a circular economy. The remainder of the month will focus on “introducing the concept of circular economy and amplifying its broader social, environmental, and economic benefits, communicating a different theme each week,” CIC said.

Week one will introduce the circular economy, week two will focus on the environmental benefits, week three remains waste reduction, and week four looks at social and economic benefits.

The organization is looking to governments, educators, businesses and individuals to engage via social media or by planning an event.
